Routine daily care and maintenance of Corian is easy.

Use the following procedures as a guide to everyday care for Corian

There are three types of worktop finishes:

  • matte
  • semi-gloss
  • gloss.
All Corian sinks have the matte finish. Soapy water or ammonia-based cleaners will remove most dirt and stains.

Although Corian is quite resistant to heat, you should always use a hot pad or a trivet with rubber feet. In most cases, Corian worktops can be repaired if it is accidentally damaged but try to follow our guidelines to prevent any permanent damage to Corian solid surface.

Do not expose Corian to strong chemicals. If contact occurs, quickly flush the surface with water. Nail polish can be removed with a non-acetone based remover then flush with clean water. Do not cut on top of Corian worktops, use a chopping board.

Damage including scratches, chemical stains or burns, and minor bumps, can be repaired on-site with an abrasive cleanser. For heavier damage, light sanding may be necessary.

Check extent of the damage and figure whether a minor repair will solve the problem. If the damage is small, repair it with an abrasive cleanser.

Stains. Cuts. Scratches. While these can permanently mar most other surfaces, they won't compromise the appearance of Corian. It is easy to restore Corian to its original form.

Upon installation a Corian worktop will have an overall satin sheen finish. However, as you use it Corian acquires a smoother, finish. Even the cleaning properties appear to improve with use. So that this finish does not develop unevenly, you should use a gentle abrasive powder bleach or a mild cream abrasive cleanser once or twice a month over the first few months. Clean the entire worktop with a wet cloth. Rinse and wipe with a damp cloth, and dry with a soft cloth.

How to clean Corian work tops & Sinks

Corian is simple to maintain. Although liquids cannot penetrate Corian, it is best to wipe up spills as they occur. Just use an ammonia based surface cleaner, a good solid surface cleaner or ordinary detergent. Clean your sink or worktop as usual, with a damp cloth and detergent, wiping it well and rinsing to get rid of any oils or, spray with a hard surface cleaner and leave a few minutes before rinsing.

If any stains need more attention you can sprinkle a gentle abrasive powder bleach on the damp surface and leave for a few minutes before using a soft cloth to rub, and rinsing/wiping then drying.

Once or twice a week remove all the fat and oil residues of food preparation from the sink using detergent. Partially fill the sink with warm, not boiling water and add 1 to 2 teaspoons of liquid bleach, and leave for a few hours.

Metal marks from pots and pans show on Corian sinks, just as they do on porcelain, ceramic or acrylic. Also food preparation stains or discolouration (wine, tea, coffee vegetable oil and food residues, etc) build up in Corian sinks just as in stainless steel sinks where they are less evident on the darker base colour. Hard water leaves visible water marks on Corian®, just as on glassware, which is why it should be wiped dry with a soft cloth after use.

Preventing Damage to Corian Worktops

Heat- Rather than cause accidental heat damage, prevent such damage in the first place: Always use a heat protection pad or trivet for hot cookware. Never put hot pans, particularly cast iron, directly on a Corian top or in a sink. If you must put a hot pan on the base of a sink use a protective sink mat.

Modern appliances reach higher temperatures quicker. To avoid damage to your worktops, follow both the appliance manufacturers instructions and these rules:

Scratches- As with all materials, Corian will show light abrasion marks in normal use, Darker colours may show such wear and tear more readily and need a bit more attention. However if Corian® is accidentally scored or scratched more severely you can usually restore it yourself. It is not a good idea to cut or chop on Corian, this will score the worksurface. Use a chopping board.

Chemical Spilages- Spills of strong chemicals like paint stripper, brush cleaners, metal cleaners, oven cleaners, should be flushed promptly with copious amounts of soapy water to avoid damaging the surface.

The beauty of Corian is that even after many years of use your worktops will still look great. Most types of damage can be repaired and the original surface restored. It provides a renewable and easy to use sympathetic surface.
